In a major milestone that signals a new phase in the expansion of premium automotive power solutions across the sub-region, JP Batteries officially launched its operations in Ghana, marking another strategic step in its vision to dominate the West African automobile battery market.

The delegation, led by Chief Dr. Chris Brown Umeh, Chairman of JP Chris Motors & Batteries Nigeria Limited, arrived in Ghana on August 2, 2026, where they received a warm and colourful welcome from members of the Igbo community led by Ambassador Dr. Chukwudi Jude Ihenatu, the key distributor of JP Batteries in Ghana through Chibert Group Limited.

The reception reflected the growing confidence in the JP Batteries brand and underscored the strong business relationship between Nigeria and Ghana. Traditional leaders, business executives, transport stakeholders, government officials and members of the diplomatic and commercial communities gathered to witness what many described as the beginning of a new era in Ghana’s automotive battery industry.

The official unveiling attracted notable dignitaries including Merlyn Gaskin, Director of Research, Statistics and Information Management at Ghana’s Ministry of Transport; Kwasi Bona Otuo-Srebour, Director of Vehicle Inspection and Registration, DVLA; Sarah Yankson, Planning Officer, Ministry of Transport; Bernice Nyemtakyiwaa, Manager, Registration, DVLA; and Carl Tagoe, Manager, Compliance, alongside respected traditional rulers and business leaders from Nigeria and Ghana.

Among other distinguished personalities present were Onyendu Raymond Chukwuma Okadigbo (Ezebinugwu), Onyendu Samuel Ekezie (Eze Sampe), High Chief Isaac Chigbata (Omeudo), Chief Donald Nwachimerem Nwokodiuko— Chairman of King Donald Trade Nigeria Limited, King Donald Company Limited Ghana, Chief Harrison Mba Kalu, Chief Calistus Eloziuwa, Chairman , Nigerians in Diaspora (NIDO), Chief Uche Anyaoku, Chairman Igbo Community in Ghana, Chief Obiora Anakwe (Onuowu), Chief Daniel Bethram , Chief Temple Ezenwadi , among others.

Delivering the keynote technical presentation, Kwasi Bona Otuo-Srebour, Director of Vehicle Inspection and Registration, DVLA, stressed the importance of quality automotive batteries in ensuring road safety and vehicle efficiency. He warned motorists against the growing circulation of counterfeit and substandard batteries, noting that inferior batteries contribute significantly to unexpected vehicle breakdowns, electrical system failures, fire outbreaks, alternator damage and avoidable road accidents.

According to him, quality batteries are not merely vehicle accessories but critical safety components that determine ignition reliability, lighting performance, electronic stability and overall vehicle efficiency. He urged motorists to purchase only certified products from authorized distributors, emphasizing that quality assurance remains fundamental to Ghana’s transport safety agenda.

Speaking on behalf of the host community, Ambassador Dr. Chukwudi Jude Ihenatu, leader of the Igbo community in Ghana and Chief Executive Officer of Chibert Group Limited, described the launch as more than a business investment. He said it represents a platform for industrial cooperation, job creation, technology transfer and stronger economic ties between Ghana and Nigeria.

He expressed confidence that through Chibert Group Limited, Ghanaian consumers would gain easier access to authentic, durable and high-performance JP Batteries backed by professional after-sales support and warranty services. He assured customers that the company would build an efficient distribution network capable of serving dealers, fleet operators, transport companies and individual motorists across Ghana.

The Director of Research, Statistics and Information Management at Ghana’s Ministry of Transport, Merlyn Gaskin, applauded the investment, describing it as timely for Ghana’s expanding transportation sector. She explained that the Ministry looks forward to collaborating with reputable private-sector investors whose products improve vehicle reliability, reduce maintenance costs and enhance transport efficiency.

According to him, durable automotive batteries help commercial transport operators minimize breakdowns, improve fleet productivity and lower operating expenses, ultimately reducing the cost burden on commuters while promoting safer roads and sustainable transportation.

Addressing guests, Onyendu Raymond Chukwuma Okadigbo (Ezebinugwu) highlighted the qualities that distinguish JP Batteries in today’s competitive market. He described the brand with six defining values: Power, Strength, Confidence, Dependability, Exceptional Performance and Reliability.

He noted that every successful journey begins with dependable power, adding that JP Batteries were designed to withstand Africa’s harsh weather conditions while delivering consistent starting power, longer service life and outstanding performance under demanding operating environments.

Industry stakeholders also highlighted JP Batteries’ growing reputation across West Africa for durability, reliability and value. The brand continues to expand its distribution footprint under the leadership of Chief Dr. Chris Brown Umeh, who has consistently championed the availability of quality automotive power solutions across Nigeria, Ghana and other West African markets. The company’s expansion strategy follows its growing international partnerships and increased regional presence after participating in Pinaco’s global customer conference in Vietnam earlier this year.

Speaking after the ceremony, several dealers expressed optimism that the partnership would strengthen the availability of genuine automotive batteries while creating new opportunities for entrepreneurs within Ghana’s automotive value chain.

Offering his perspective, Nigeria’s media expert, public analyst and Publisher of 4th Estate Reporters, Njoku Macdonald Obinna, described the launch as a significant milestone in regional economic integration.

According to him, “The official introduction of JP Batteries into Ghana demonstrates the growing capacity of indigenous African businesses to compete across borders. Beyond selling batteries, this investment promotes regional trade, creates employment opportunities, strengthens manufacturing and distribution networks, and deepens the economic relationship between Nigeria and Ghana under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). It is encouraging to see African brands building confidence through quality, innovation and strategic partnerships.”

The successful launch concluded with networking sessions, business engagements and dealership discussions, reinforcing JP Batteries’ commitment to delivering premium automotive energy solutions across West Africa.

With Ghana now officially added to its expanding distribution network through Chibert Group Limited, industry observers believe JP Batteries has positioned itself to become one of the region’s most trusted automotive battery brands, driven by innovation, durability, quality assurance and a vision to power Africa’s transportation future.
