Aiza Nwosu: Police Arrest 12 Over Comedian’s Murder, Hunt Principal

The investigation into the killing of popular Awka-based comedian and town crier, Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as Aiza Nwosu, has intensified, with the Anambra State Police Command announcing the arrest of 12 suspects in connection with the murder and other cult-related killings in the state capital.

The arrests form part of an ongoing police operation aimed at unravelling the circumstances surrounding the death of the entertainer and identifying those responsible for a series of cult-related killings reported in Awka.

Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Awka.

Ikenga said the command was pursuing multiple lines of investigation, including efforts to identify the perpetrators and apprehend a principal suspect who remains at large.

According to him, investigators have been examining individuals and circumstances believed to have information capable of shedding light on the killing.

“The command is investigating the alleged cult-related murder of Aiza Nwosu and other cult-related killings in the area,” Ikenga said.

He said the investigation had led to the arrest of 12 persons, while efforts were continuing to locate the principal suspect.

The police spokesman did not disclose the identities of all those arrested or provide details of the specific allegations against each suspect, but stressed that the investigation remained active.

Ikenga also cautioned against interpreting arrests made during the investigation as proof of guilt.

“Being invited, arrested or questioned in connection with an investigation is not a declaration of guilt. The command remained guided by due process and the presumption of innocence,” he said.

The death of Aiza Nwosu has attracted significant attention in Awka, where the deceased was known for his work as a comedian and town crier.

His killing has also become part of wider security concerns surrounding cult-related violence in the state capital, prompting intensified police efforts to identify those behind the attacks and disrupt criminal networks linked to them.

The command said it was pursuing the investigation professionally and objectively, with the aim of bringing those responsible to justice.

Ikenga assured members of the public that the police would continue to follow all lawful investigative procedures while working to apprehend suspects still at large.

“The investigation remains ongoing, and the command will continue to pursue it professionally, objectively and without fear or favour, with the ultimate objective of ensuring that justice is served,” he said.

The Police Command appealed for credible information from members of the public that could assist investigators in identifying and apprehending the remaining suspects connected to the murder of Aiza Nwosu and other cult-related killings in Awka.
