Anambra government seeks N70bn stabilization fund to address gully erosion and insecurity
ANAMBRA SEEKS ₦70 BILLION STABILISATION FUND: WHEN INSECURITY AND EROSION BECOME ENEMIES OF DEVELOPMENT
In the land where the farmer must first secure his farm before he can expect a harvest, the people of Anambra know too well that development cannot flourish where insecurity, erosion and failing infrastructure threaten the foundations of daily life.
The Anambra State Government has therefore approached the Federal Government with a request for ₦70 billion from the Stabilisation Fund, seeking support to confront these challenges and protect economic activities and essential public services across the state.
The request was presented to the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission during a technical session at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the commission’s Head of Information and Public Relations Unit, Maryam Yusuf, explained that the proposed intervention would support security operations, environmental protection, healthcare, education and other important development priorities.
For a community threatened by erosion, the ground beneath its feet is not merely soil; it is the foundation upon which homes, roads and livelihoods stand. And where insecurity raises its ugly head, markets grow quiet, businesses suffer and the people’s confidence in tomorrow begins to weaken.
The request now places before the relevant federal authorities the question of how such support could help Anambra confront these challenges and sustain its development.
As the elders would say, a wise man does not wait for the roof to collapse before he begins to look for timber. Yet, beyond the request itself, the people will look forward to seeing the necessary support translated into practical solutions that protect lives, preserve communities and strengthen the state’s economic future.
