For 500 students in Umuchu, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, academic excellence could soon come with a reward capable of making a real difference in their educational journey.

The Mighty Mighty (Ikenga N’Umuchu) Education Foundation, founded by High Chief Abraham Ikechukwu Otti, has announced a major education grant programme for students across primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in the community.

Under the 2026 programme, participating students will sit for an examination through which beneficiaries and winners of the various cash prizes will be determined.

The foundation has announced a total of N7.6 million in star prizes, with substantial financial rewards awaiting the best-performing students across the three categories.

For tertiary students, the first prize is N2 million, while the second and third positions will receive N1 million and N500,000 respectively.

At the secondary-school level, the first prize is N1 million, followed by N800,000 for second place and N500,000 for third.

Primary-school students will compete for N800,000 for first position, N600,000 for second and N400,000 for third.

The programme also provides consolation prizes, extending the opportunity beyond only the top three performers.

According to the foundation’s 2026 notice, the beneficiaries and star-prize winners will be determined through an examination process. Candidates will be ranked according to their performance, with the highest-scoring students considered for the major prizes.

Registration opened on Monday, August 10, 2026, and will close on Monday, August 24, 2026.

Primary and secondary school students are expected to obtain their application forms through their respective school managements, while school authorities can obtain forms from Community Primary School, Achalla, Umuchu.

Students in accredited tertiary institutions have also been provided with a WhatsApp channel through which they can submit their details and register.

The examinations are scheduled for 9:00 a.m. as follows:

Primary: Friday, August 28, 2026

Secondary: Saturday, August 29, 2026

Tertiary: Sunday, August 30, 2026

All examinations will take place at Community Primary School, Achalla, Umuchu.

The foundation has also fixed Thursday, September 24, 2026, for the unveiling and presentation of prizes at the same venue.

Commenting on the initiative, Nigerian Media Expert, Public Analyst and Publisher of 4th Estate Reporters, Njoku Macdonald Obinna, said the programme goes beyond the financial value of the prizes, describing it as an important way of encouraging young people to take academic excellence seriously.

He noted that rewarding students based on performance could inspire healthy competition while giving beneficiaries financial support to continue their education.

“The real value is not only in the money being given out, but in the motivation it creates. When young people see that hard work and academic excellence can be recognised and rewarded, it can encourage them to aim higher,” njoku Macdonald Obinna said.

With registration now underway, the initiative is expected to generate interest among students, parents, teachers and school authorities across Umuchu.

For the 500 students expected to participate, the August examinations will represent more than an academic test. For some, it could become an opportunity to secure financial support and gain fresh motivation to pursue their educational ambitions.
