KING DONALD NWOKODIUKO HONOURED IN ACCRA WITH ZIK INTERNATIONAL AWARD FOR VISIONARY ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND SOCIAL IMPACT

Some honours are received with applause; others arrive with the weight of expectation. For the Chairman of King Donald Trade Nigeria, King Donald Company Ltd Ghana and General Diffusion Ghana Ltd/Nigeria Ltd, Chief Donald Chinemerem Nwokodiuko, his recognition on Saturday , August 7, 2026, at the British Council Hall in Accra, Ghana, belonged to the latter category a moment where entrepreneurship, leadership, tradition and social responsibility converged before a distinguished gathering of African leaders and accomplished personalities.

The Chairman and Founder of King Donald trade Nigeria, King Donald company Ltd Ghana, and General diffusion Ghana Ltd/Nigeria —Chief Donald Nwachimerem Nwokodiuko was honoured with the Zik International Peace and Leadership Award for Visionary Entrepreneurship and Social Impact, in recognition of his entrepreneurial vision and contribution to society.

The ceremony brought together an impressive cross-section of political leaders, business executives, traditional rulers, diplomats, professionals and community leaders from Nigeria and Ghana. Among the distinguished personalities at the occasion were Ibrahim Mahama, Ghanaian businessman and younger brother of President John Dramani Mahama; Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South in the Nigerian Senate; His Excellency Dauda Lawal, Executive Governor of Zamfara State; Dame Dr. Adaora Umeoji, OON, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Plc; His Excellency Ambassador Shehu Ilu Barde, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Ghana; Hon. Rockson-Nelson Etse Kwami Dafeamekpor, MP for South Dayi and Majority Chief Whip of Ghana’s Parliament; and other eminent guests.

The event was chaired by Abbas Umar Mansanawa, OON, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, while Hon. Chineme Onyeke, Director-General, played a key role in the organisation of the programme. Also present was His Royal Majesty Prof. Echefuna R.G. Oyebeadi, DBA, PhD(s), BOT Chairman, alongside Dr. Ogochukwu Chidiebere Nweke, who served as guest speaker.

Hon. Dafeamekpor, whose presence added a strong parliamentary dimension to the occasion, served as keynote speaker, bringing into the gathering the voice of Ghana’s legislature and the wider conversation around leadership, development and African cooperation.

The ceremony also recognised other distinguished personalities whose awards reflected different dimensions of African leadership and service. Hon. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, OON, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, was honoured with the Award for Diaspora Engagement and Global African Relations, reflecting her long-standing role in diaspora affairs. Her official profile records extensive work on behalf of Nigerians abroad and her leadership of NiDCOM.

His Royal Majesty Igwe Sir Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu Ogadagidi, KSJP, received the Distinguished African Royal Leadership and Community Development Award, while His Excellency Dauda Lawal, Executive Governor of Zamfara State, received the Pan-African Award for Excellence in Public Leadership and Economic Reform.

His Excellency Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, was also honoured with the Award for Excellence in Public Sector and Sustainable Development.

For King Donald, however, the night carried a deeply personal meaning.

When he stepped forward to accept the honour, his first acknowledgement was directed to God Almighty. He expressed gratitude for the journey, the opportunities and the people whose support had contributed to his achievements.

He thanked the organisers of the Zik International Peace and Leadership Award for finding him worthy of the recognition, describing the honour as a privilege that also comes with the responsibility to do more.

A particularly emotional part of his acceptance speech was his appreciation to Amb. Dr. Chukwudi Ihenetu , Onyendu Ndigbo na Ghana, whose recommendation and nomination, he acknowledged, played an important role in making the recognition possible.

He also thanked his friends, family and wife for their support and gave special recognition to his brother, Ikenna Prince Charles, who was present to share the moment with him.

The evening became even more significant when Amb. Dr. Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, Onyendu ndi Igbo na Ghana, was himself honoured with the Exemplary Leadership, Peace and Service to Humanity Award.

The recognition placed traditional leadership at the heart of an evening otherwise dominated by conversations around business, politics, diplomacy and public service. It celebrated Eze Ihenatu’s leadership, peace-building efforts and service to humanity, while underscoring the role traditional institutions continue to play in preserving identity and strengthening communities beyond national borders.

For King Donald, the honour bestowed on Ihenatu was especially meaningful. The traditional ruler being celebrated for exemplary leadership was also the person whose recommendation and nomination had helped bring his own name forward for international recognition.

Following the ceremony, King Donald visited the palace of Amb. Chukwudi Ihenetu to receive royal blessings and personally express his appreciation for royal father’s support.

It was a fitting continuation of the evening from the international setting of the British Council Hall to the traditional palace, where public recognition gave way to gratitude and achievement met with royal blessing.

The symbolism was difficult to miss. The award was international, but the journey behind it remained deeply connected to community, relationships and people who believed in the recipient before the wider world began to take notice.

The Zik name itself carries considerable historical weight. The broader Zik Prize tradition was established in honour of Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Zik of Africa, whose Pan-African outlook and contribution to Nigeria’s independence remain an important part of the continent’s political history.

There was therefore, a striking resonance in having a Nigerian entrepreneur honoured in Accra under a Zik-inspired leadership platform. Azikiwe himself had important ties to Ghana, including his years as a journalist in Accra, giving the setting an additional historical dimension.

Reacting to the recognition, Nigerian Media Expert, Public Analyst and Publisher of 4th Estate Reporters, Njoku Macdonald Obinna, described the honour as a recognition that carries responsibility beyond the ceremony.

For King Donald, however, the true significance of August 7 may not be found in the award itself, but in what comes after it.

The recognition has placed another marker on his entrepreneurial journey, but it has also raised the expectation that the vision, enterprise and social impact for which he was honoured will continue to grow.

His story in Accra was therefore not simply about receiving a plaque before distinguished personalities. It was about recognition, gratitude, community and responsibility a journey that moved from the international stage to the traditional palace and returned with a message of purpose.

On a night filled with prominent names and distinguished personalities, King Donald’s moment stood out because the recognition celebrated more than what he has achieved. It celebrated what he represents: the possibility of an African entrepreneur turning vision into enterprise, enterprise into influence, and influence into impact.

And as the applause faded at the British Council Hall, one message remained clear the most valuable award is not the one placed in a recipient’s hands, but the responsibility that follows it.
