Archbishop Okeke Receives AMTY Awards Team, Charges Organisers to Sustain Recognition of Excellence

The Catholic Archbishop of Onitsha and Metropolitan of the Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, His Grace Most Rev. Dr. Valerian Maduka Okeke, has received members of the Anambra Man of the Year (AMTY) Awards team at his office in Onitsha.

The visit followed the recently concluded 5th edition of the AMTY Awards, where Archbishop Okeke was honoured with the inaugural Anambra Person of the Decade Award for his longstanding contributions to evangelisation, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, humanitarian service and socio-economic development in Anambra State.

The 2026 AMTY Awards, held on July 18 at the Stanel Dome in Awka under the theme, “Unstoppable Anambra: Leveraging Human Capital for Global Impact,” brought together prominent personalities from the business, academic, religious, political and professional sectors.

During the courtesy visit, the Archbishop expressed appreciation to the organisers for the recognition, noting that the honour was an encouragement to continue serving God and humanity.

He also commended the vision behind the AMTY Awards, particularly its focus on identifying and celebrating individuals whose contributions have made a meaningful difference in society.

Archbishop Okeke prayed for the organisers and members of the team, asking God to continue to strengthen and guide them in their work. He further charged them not to relent in their commitment to recognising excellence, integrity and outstanding contributions to the development of Anambra State and Nigeria.

The AMTY Awards was founded by Chikezie Chiedu, Managing Director of TourNigeria Communications, with the initiative established to promote merit, responsible leadership and excellence while encouraging accomplished Anambra indigenes to contribute their expertise and resources to the development of the state.

The Archbishop’s recognition as Person of the Decade was widely described as a fitting acknowledgement of his decades of service. The AMTY organisers had earlier cited his impact in faith, education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, youth development and humanitarian interventions as reasons for the honour.

The visit therefore provided another opportunity for the AMTY team to formally appreciate the Archbishop while reaffirming the purpose of the awards to celebrate people whose work, sacrifice and achievements continue to inspire others and contribute to the progress of society.
