During the weekend, Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) — Dr. Samuel Ogbuku —paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR— at his Lagos residence —to congratulate him on the successful completion of the third year of the Renewed Hope Administration and to brief him on the Commission’s ongoing developmental strides in the Niger Delta region.

Among members of the Commission’s delegation was the Chairman of the Governing Board of NDDC— Barr. Chiedu Ebie— alongside the Executive Director, Corporate Services, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde. The visit was described as both symbolic and strategic, reflecting renewed synergy between the Presidency and the Commission in advancing sustainable regional development.

During the engagement, the NDDC leadership commended the Federal Government’s continued support and highlighted key achievements recorded in recent years. According to official updates from the Commission, the NDDC has made notable progress in infrastructure delivery and community development, with over 15,000 projects and programmes implemented across the Niger Delta, including road rehabilitation, rural electrification, healthcare interventions, and water supply schemes aimed at improving living conditions in oil-producing communities .

The Commission also noted significant expansion in renewable energy and rural development projects, with thousands of interventions targeting underserved communities, particularly in hard-to-reach riverine areas. Recent operational data indicates that ongoing efforts have continued to strengthen access to basic infrastructure, with a substantial number of projects either completed or at advanced stages of execution across multiple states in the region .

The visit further provided an opportunity for the NDDC to brief the President the ongoing initiatives in human capital development, youth empowerment, and environmental sustainability. These programmes, according to the Commission, are designed to align with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes inclusive economic growth, job creation, and social stability.

In his response, President Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that the Niger Delta Development Commission continues to deliver on its statutory mandate. He emphasized the importance of accountability, project completion, and impactful governance in translating national resources into tangible benefits for citizens.

Reiterating their commitment, the NDDC Board and Management assured the President of their readiness to deepen reforms, strengthen project delivery mechanisms, and accelerate development interventions across the region. They stressed that the Commission remains focused on fostering sustainable development, expanding economic opportunities, and improving the quality of life for millions of Niger Delta residents.

The engagement ended on a note of renewed confidence and collaboration, with both parties expressing optimism that sustained partnership will further accelerate infrastructural transformation and socio-economic stability across the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large.
