Soludo Names Ojukwu Pioneer Urban Development Commissioner

By Chinelo Okeke

The Anambra State Governor, Prof Charles Soludo has appointed Mr. Chijioke Oseloka Ojukwu as the pioneer Commissioner for the newly created Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, signaling a bold step in the state’s drive to reform its urban landscape.

Mr. Ojukwu, a legal practitioner and member of the renowned Ojukwu Eze-Okigbo dynasty of Obiuno Umudim, Nnewi, brings both pedigree and professional experience to the role. His lineage is closely linked to notable figures such as Sir Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu, Prof Joseph Okwuabudike Odumegwu Ojukwu of the UNTH Enugu and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

A graduate of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Ojukwu was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2009 and has since built a career in corporate and commercial law. His legal expertise spans advisory services for major real estate development firms, particularly in Lekki, Lagos, where he earned a reputation for handling high-value property transactions.

Beyond real estate, he has also made a mark in the entertainment industry, providing legal services to high-profile personalities, including reality TV stars Mercy Eke and Dorathy Bachor.

Prior to the establishment of the ministry, physical planning and urban development in Anambra State were managed by the Anambra State Physical Planning Board under a managing director. However, the creation of a full-fledged ministry signals a strategic shift by the administration of Chukwuma Soludo toward strengthening regulatory oversight and accelerating urban renewal efforts.

The move forms part of a broader reform agenda aimed at promoting sustainable city growth, enhancing infrastructure coordination, and ensuring stricter compliance with planning regulations across the state.

With his blend of legal expertise, real estate experience, and exposure to high-level corporate practice, Ojukwu is well positioned to drive the transformation envisioned by the Soludo administration.

His appointment is widely seen as a defining moment for Anambra’s urban development trajectory, as the state seeks to modernize its cities and align with global standards in physical planning and environmental management.
