The grand finale of Imo State’s 50th Golden Jubilee was a historic convergence of leadership, culture, and pride. Among Imo leaders who witnessed the culmination of this landmark celebration is the doyen of real estate business, Chairman of Citygate Homes— High Chief Duru Mike Ejiogu (Onowu Anara)— whose legacy in community development and civic engagement is widely admired. Ejiogu— who was recently honoured as Entrepreneur of the Year by the Sun Newspapers—observed the gathering of national and regional dignitaries, the Vice President of Nigeria, representatives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former governors, serving governors from Taraba, Ekiti, and Borno, and ranking traditional rulers from Imo and neighboring states. Others in attendance included Dr. Ejike Chukwu (MON), Chairman of Megadril Nigeria Limited, Rt. Hon. Henry Nwawuba, Executive Secretary National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedu Martins, Honorable Member representing Ahiazu Ezinhittu, Hon. Anthony Matthew Nwaugu, Honorable Representative Nwaga Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency, and HRH Eze Duru Oshimiri Atata III, Obinna Akwiwu. Religious leaders, business captains, and cultural icons lent their weight to the ceremony, emphasizing the state’s fifty-year journey of resilience and progress.
Awards were a highlight of the evening, celebrating Imo’s leaders, innovators, and cultural ambassadors. The Golden Star Governor of Imo State Award honored H.E. Late Chief Sam Onunaka Mbakwe and H.E. Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON. The Grand Service Star of Imo State recognized eminent public servants including Major-General Ike Omar Sanda Nwachukwu (Rtd), Rear Admiral Allison Madueke, Cmdre James Aneke (Rtd), Chief Achike Udenwa, and others. Cultural and innovation awards acknowledged figures such as Kanayo O. Kanayo, Genevieve Nnaji, Dr. Sylvester Ugo, and Chiamaka Nnadozie, highlighting the diversity of excellence within Imo State.
For Chief Ejiogu , the evening was more than a ceremony. The governor’s address, reflecting on Imo’s achievements and future vision, left a profound impression. He described it as an inspiring moment that captured the essence of the jubilee, a reminder of the state’s resilience, unity, and potential for continued growth.
