I’M NOT SURE I WILL SURVIVE BEYOND THIS YEAR – IBB
“I feel weak myself. I am not sure whether I will survive beyond this year. Our prayer is to end our lives in faith.”
The above comment was recently made by former Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.

It was part of his statement through his social media handles in Minna demanding a total military crackdown on bandits and terrorists, urging the government to reject any surrender offers from criminals.
As expected his comment naturally has generated or attracted debate. Many are saying, IBB as he was fondly laid the foundation stones of the problems presently ravaging Nigeria. They argue that he had the opportunity to fix the country but rather he choose to ruin it.
He laid the foundation for all these setbacks we are passing through today in Nigeria. He annulled the best Presidential Election we have ever had in Nigeria – June 12 Presidential Election.
History will not be kind to Arthur Nzeribe and Justice Ikpeme on the roles they played in drawing up the plan to scuttle our democracy. Even in his memoir Prof Humphrey Nwosu didn’t have the balls to call the Election what it was.
Beyond this argument is IBB’s declaration that he is not sure of surviving beyond this year. This writer ask, is this a prophecy? Is Maradona tactically bidding us goodbye? Is the “evil genius” bowing out?
The man is 84… and struggling with his health challenges. He had withdrawn into his Minna Hilltop Home since he “stepped aside” after leaving office on August 27, 1993.
Though, he is still consulted by prominent politicians who seek his advice. But his latest comment seems to suggest that the curtain may be falling on the history, record and activities of a man once reverred.
Life is vanity upon vanity like the holy books puts it. Nothing indeed lasts forever. Power is transient. The man stated the obvious. He knows his body and understands the language it is speaking now.
Longevity of life belongs to God. Atimes longevity is meant to ensure you witness the good or bad you did when one waa younger. It is meant for you to reap what you sowed.
One wonders what his epitaph will read.
