The Pioneer Executive Secretary of the National Assembly Library Trust Fund (NALTF)— Rt. Hon. Henry Nwawuba—has received the Secretary-General of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures (CoSPAL)— Amb. Dapo Oyewole, during a mutual visit to his office.

The meeting brought together two experienced voices in legislative affairs, with discussions centred on the need to deepen democratic institutions across Africa through knowledge, innovation, collaboration and strategic partnerships.

Nwawuba, who expressed delight at receiving Oyewole, described the CoSPAL Secretary-General as a brother and noted that their shared understanding of legislative development provides a strong foundation for meaningful collaboration.

The former federal lawmaker emphasised that the strength of democracy is closely connected to the capacity of institutions to continuously learn, innovate and adapt to the changing needs of society.

He further highlighted the importance of knowledge exchange and strategic partnerships among African legislative institutions, noting that such engagements can contribute significantly to improving parliamentary practices and strengthening democratic governance.

The visit also provided an opportunity for both leaders to reflect on the broader role of legislative institutions in promoting effective leadership, accountability and citizen-centred governance across the continent.

Nwawuba reaffirmed his commitment to initiatives that promote institutional development and legislative excellence, stressing that stronger democratic institutions remain essential to Africa’s progress.

The engagement between the NALTF helmsman and the CoSPAL Secretary-General reflects the growing importance of collaboration among African legislative stakeholders in building institutions that are responsive, innovative and capable of meeting the aspirations of citizens.
